MS volleyball gets a win on the road

4.0 years ago @ 10:33AM

Last night Whitmore Lake hit the road again for a match against Inter-City Baptist.  After the first serve, Whitmore Lake was down 0 – 1, but that was the last they would have a deficit score.  On the next serve the Trojans got a side out to tie the set then Hayden Brose put up five in a row for Whitmore Lake.  From there, some poor serving by Whitmore Lake allowed Inter-City Baptist to hang around and the Chargers were able to tie the set at 10.  By the second full rotation though, Whitmore Lake was done toying with the Chargers and Samantha Bearer served five points then Brose added three more for a comfortable 20 – 12 lead.  Inter-City Baptist added a few more points but the Trojans had enough and Anna Kautz subbed in to serve and put the final three points on the scoreboard to win 25 – 16.  In the second set, the Trojans decided it was time to flex their muscle and put on a dominating show.  After giving up the first point of the set, Kautz dished up 15 points in a row for a 16 – 1 lead before the Trojans called off the dogs.  Adeline Conrow subbed in for Kautz at the line and added another point before the Chargers were able to get their first side out of the set.  On the ensuing serve, Whitmore Lake took the ball right back and Brose took the Trojans to a 23 – 2 lead.  After a missed serve by Whitmore Lake, Inter-City Baptist added two more points but a side out by the Trojans put Whitmore Lake at the penultimate point.  Emily Schemer stepped to the serving line and iced the set and match with an ace for a huge 25 – 5 win after just three rotations.  With the match in hand, Whitmore Lake mixed things up in the third set and Leah Castle made her debut as a setter for the Trojans.  The teams played pretty even in the third set with Whitmore Lake holding a slim 6 – 4 lead.  Inter-City Baptist pulled ahead at 7 – 6, but the Trojans fought right back to go up 9 – 7 on Brose’s unveiling of her jump serve.  From there the Chargers took the lead back and were able to hold off Whitmore Lake to win the final set 15 – 12.  Whitmore Lake continues to dive all over the court with their nothing touches the ground attitude, exemplified by Alex Waldecker blowing through her knee pad during the match.  The girls are also playing with great teamwork setting up hitters on nearly every possession.  Castle had her first spike of the season and Schemer pounded one back courtesy of a Charger set.  Kari Peach is commanding the offense with her setting from the back row and is keeping the opposition off balance by mixing up tips and hard hits while in the front row.  Sophia Lewis is becoming a wall at the net with her blocking and nothing more needs to be said about Kautz’s serving.  The dominating win puts the Trojans at 3 – 1 (2 – 1 MIAC) for the season.  Whitmore Lake will bring their show back home next Thursday for a rematch against Greenhills.
