9/20/22 Whitmore Lake vs. Greenhills

8th Grade

17 – 25, 10 – 25, 10 – 15

Last night, Whitmore Lake played their home opener against Greenhills.  After defeating the Gryphons a week ago, the Trojans were confident they would put another notch in the win column.  Greenhills had a different idea though.  In the first set, Greenhills jumped out to a quick 7 – 0 lead before Whitmore Lake could get a side out.  From there, Greenhills would score two points for every one of the Trojans and creeped closer to the 25 point finish line.  Finally with the score at 20 – 12, Izzy Bishop served up three in a row to close the gap and give Whitmore Lake some hope, but Greenhills quickly snuffed that out and won the first set 25 – 17.  Whitmore Lake knew they could take these girls, and were ready to make it a three set match.  This time, the Trojans were scoring two points for every one of the Gryphons and were up 9 – 5 looking like they were going to cruise to an easy win.  Greenhills tightened the set up to 8 – 9 and Whitmore scored another point off a side out before the wheels fell off the Trojan bus.  Greenhills scored the next point on a side out and then served 16 in a row stomping the life out of the Trojans on their way to a 25 – 10 second set win.  Whitmore Lake tried to regroup for the third set, but couldn’t put those wheels back on the bus and Greehills sent Whitmore Lake back to the garage for repairs, winning the third set 15 – 10.  Whitmore Lake tried hard, but just couldn’t get in sync and lacked communication on the court, letting many easy balls drop to the floor.  When Whitmore Lake was able to set up the ball, they did a better job of trying to hit the ball for an attack rather than just bumping the ball over the net.  The girls will shine that bus up in practice and be ready to go on Thursday for another home match against St. Pat’s.  With the loss, the Trojan record now stands at 1 – 3 (0 – 2 MIAC).
