What a game between our Trojans and the visiting Irish from Father Gabriel Richard. After falling behind 16-0 at the half. The Trojans started to flex their muscle on both sides of the ball. Scoring early in the 3rd quarter made it a one-score contest. With 8:12 remaining, lightning forced a 2 hr delay and eventually led to a postponement.
After resuming on Saturday at 2:00 PM, the Trojans punched in their first play making the score 14-16. The following possession, the Irish converted 2 third downs on their way to a score extending their lead to 22-14. On their final offensive possession of the game, the Trojans marched 80 yards for 6. Unfortunately, a failed 2-point conversion ended the game making the final score 20-22. Below are some of the stat highlights:

Presenting the 5 greatest Whitmore Lake athletes since 2000

Presenting the 5 greatest Whitmore Lake athletes since 2000
WHITMORE LAKE – Whitmore Lake prides itself on being a small town with big talent.
There have been athletes from Whitmore Lake that made a name for themselves in several sports, etching their names in the Trojan record books.
After finishing as one of the top two vote-getters in last week’s MLive fan poll with Milan, the best Trojan athletes will now get their moment to shine.
Whitmore Lake is next up in the weekly MLive project that features Ann Arbor-area high school’s Top 5 greatest athletes since 2000.
With the help of statistics, accolades and nominations from coaches, administrators and supporters of the athletic programs at Whitmore Lake, we have put together a list of the best Trojan athletes in the past 20 years.
Now, it’s time to see which athletes received recognition.
Hamlin competed in three sports for the Trojans. He starred at quarterback where he was a three-time all-conference performer and holds the record for career passing yards, career and single-season touchdown passes as well as the record for longest field goal made. He was also a four-year starter on the baseball team where he was named all-conference as a catcher in 2007. Hamlin was also a contributor to the basketball team.
ZACH CARPENTER, CLASS OF 2010
Carpenter’s named is littered throughout the track and cross country record books at Whitmore Lake. He holds the school record for the 1,600-meter run (4-minutes, 21.29-seconds) and the 3,200 (9:36.26) in track along with the 3,200 (10:50) record and 4,800 (15:54) record in cross country. Carpenter was a four-time All-State and four-time all-conference honoree in cross country and helped the Trojans win four conference titles. He then attended Portland State where he competed in both sports, earning Rookie of the Year honors for the 2010-2011 season.
STEVEN MACHIN, CLASS OF 2010
Machin was as successful of an athlete as Whitmore Lake has had in the past 20 years. He won the Division 3 state title and set the school record in the 110-meter hurdles in 2010 with a time of 14.31-seconds. He also holds school records in the 100 (10.8), 200 (22.7), 60 hurdles (9.0) and 300 hurdles (39.3) and he’s also a member of the 800 relay record-setting team.
EVAN ROMEO, CLASS OF 2020
Romeo was one of the catalysts in restoring glory to Whitmore Lake’s football program last season. He finished his Whitmore Lake career ranked second all-time in rushing yards with 2,598 and ranked third all-time in rushing yards in a single season as he tallied 1,333 yards as a senior in 2019 to help the team win its first playoff game since 2006. He was a two-time all-conference performer and was named the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference MVP last season as well. He also competed in various events for the track and field team as a Trojan.
RACHEL SPECK, CLASS OF 2019
Speck is arguably the best volleyball player from Whitmore Lake in some time. A four-year letterwinner for the Trojans in volleyball, Speck earned all-state recognition in her junior and senior seasons. She led Whitmore Lake to a district title during her junior season and she set school records in hitting percentage and blocks. She was also an all-conference performer in track and field. She now plays volleyball at Division I program Valparaiso.

MHSAA cancels all 2019-20 winter and spring tournaments and sport seasons
Updated on 06/10/2022
Dear MHSAA Family:
Below you will find the media release announcing the MHSAA’s decision to cancel all 2019-20 winter and spring tournaments and sport seasons. This was based on protecting the health, safety and well-being of students, teachers, coaches, support staff, officials, media members, parents, fans and families. It follows the Governor’s order of April 2 and will allow member schools to put all attention, energy and resources into online learning experiences for the next two months. This is a public health crisis and the MHSAA, like many others, is putting public health first.
We wanted to alert you to this news before the public announcement. Thank you for all that you do for school sports in our state.

MHSAA Cancels Remainder of 2019-20 Winter & Spring Seasons
EAST LANSING, Mich. – April 3 – The Michigan High School Athletic Association has canceled the remainder of the 2019-20 Winter and Spring sports seasons, in compliance with the Thursday (April 2) “state of disaster” directive by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer closing school buildings and moving education online for the remainder of the school year to help decrease the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
This will be the first school year to not see MHSAA Finals played in multiple sports since 1942-43, when World War II led to the elimination of Finals in most sports.
The MHSAA on March 12 suspended its girls and boys basketball, girls gymnastics, boys ice hockey and boys swimming & diving tournaments amid COVID-19 concerns. All activity in all sports was halted March 13. Spring sports to that point had begun practice, but not competition.
The MHSAA’s Representative Council approved during its Winter Meeting on March 27 a series of concepts for completing the Winter tournaments and an abbreviated Spring season, contingent on the lifting of a statewide quarantine. The closure of school buildings into June made those possibilities void.
The MHSAA’s Executive Committee, comprised of officers of the larger Council, affirmed the decision today (April 3) to cancel the remainder of this school year’s activities.
“We are heartbroken to not be able to provide these opportunities for Michigan’s student-athletes, and especially seniors. We continue to hear from dozens asking us to hold out hope. But safety always must come first, and Governor Whitmer is making courageous decisions to safeguard the people of our state,” MHSAA Executive Director Mark Uyl said. “We understand as much as anyone how much school sports mean to athletes and their communities. We had ideas and hopes for finishing Winter and Spring and helping bring some sort of normalcy after this long break. But this is the correct decision, and we will play our part in bringing schools and communities together again when the time is right.”
“For now, we cannot state strongly enough that all students, staffs and others follow the guidelines established to slow the spread of this virus – we all must do our part.”
Because the five Winter sports were not able to conclude with Finals, no champions will be awarded in those sports for 2019-20. However, championships won at earlier rounds of those tournaments (District or Regional) will continue to stand.
The MHSAA will in coming weeks provide guidelines and other information pertinent to this unusual offseason as attention is turned to preparing for Fall 2020.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – March 12 – Postseason events sponsored by the Michigan High School Athletic Association have been suspended immediately and indefinitely due to concerns related to COVID-19.
The Ice Hockey, Girls Gymnastics and Lower Peninsula Boys Swimming & Diving Finals had been scheduled for this weekend, while the Girls & Boys Basketball Tournaments are midway through earlier rounds of their playoff progressions.
On Wednesday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recommended a stoppage of large gatherings in order to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“Based on the events of the last 48 hours and with things changing by the minute, we believe we have no choice but to suspend our winter tournaments immediately,” MHSAA Executive Director Mark Uyl said. “This is a suspension until we have a better handle on the situation. The health and welfare of everyone involved is our number one priority.”
Uyl added that more information and updates will be forthcoming over the next few days. No timetable has been determined for possible rescheduling for tournaments.

At this time, all MHSAA postseason tournament events will be played as scheduled. We encourage people to follow the CDC guidance regarding hand-washing, personal hygiene and staying home when sick.
We are continually monitoring this situation. If it becomes necessary to make adjustments to MHSAA tournament events, decisions will be made to ensure a healthy and safe environment for everyone involved.

ANN ARBOR – Now that the Michigan high school football season is in the books, it’s time to look back on who the most dynamic offense players from the Ann Arbor area were in 2019.
